Restoration Opportunities

There are a number of places in the church where restorations are needed. These range from work on the organ and stained glass windows (multi-thousands) to the burnishing of the hardware of an individual door (about $100). If any parishioner would like to make a gift of one of these with which one feels a special attachment, call Bill Hosley at 385-3719.

Episcopal Relief & Development

As Episcopalians, we can rest assured that we do make a difference all over the world, in many ways. In 2003, ERD responded to crises such as earthquakes, floods, fires and hurricanes in the United States, Iran, India, Samoa, the Sudan, and many other countries. But we do more than respond to crises. The "D" of ERD stands for development, which can mean helping third world countries develop health, education, and agricultural structures, but may be much broader and closer to home than that.

In North Dakota, for example, an ERD grant supported the Rape and Abuse Crisis Center of Fargo-Morehead. This program supports abuse victims through crisis intervention, advocacy, emergency shelter, and counseling services. It serves 180 Native American women and children in an area with high rates of domestic violence.

In North Carolina, through the Episcopal Housing Ministry program, lower income and homeless families are given access to affordable housing. It offers support services for residents and mentoring and counseling for children. The program will also support an after-school program and provide tutoring to middle school children.

In the Diocese of Rio Grand, the Dream Tree Project was established to offer abused and neglected homeless youth crisis intervention and support. The program helps the youth develop positive self-esteem and independent living skills and offers family therapy and housing for participants

In El Salvador, the ALSALVO Clinic Work Plan works by funding six quarterly, post-surgical, self-care workshops for colostomy patients. This program also supports nurses specialized in caring for approximately two thousand colostomy patients each year.

If you feel overwhelmed by all the need in this world, remember that you can make a real difference by contributing to ERD. St. Paul's ERD ingathering will be Sunday, March 21 this year. Please come, and please give. Thanks to all of you for your giving spirits.

Linda Workman, ERD Representative

Linen Donations

Again the linen committee for the Antiques Show is asking for donations for this year's show in April. We are looking for gently used linens such as doilies, tablecloths, tea towels, hankies, sheets, pillowcases, blankets, vintage clothing, special clothing for children and babies and items for sewers and handcrafters. A more detailed list is available in the church office or in the narthex of the church. Some early donations are hoped for so we can get a head start on the washing and pressing needed to make everything look its best for the show.

Your donation can be dropped off at the church office during the week or left on the stage in the Parish Hall on Sunday. Please label them "Linens-Antiques Show". All donations are tax deductible and greatly appreciated.
